Vanishing points

3D render / photographic series
The project "Vanishing Points" is a video and image series that depicts Berlin's architectural spaces as photographic sculptures that have been digitally reconstructed according to the original photographs and then re-rendered in a 3D program from another viewpoint. This process results in images where the original photographic texture has become stretched and manipulated beyond immediate recognition, while the second exposure of the 3D program gives the image a second vanishing point.
In this series I was interested in exploring two contrasting though visually ever more indistinguishable imaging techniques, each that seek to reshape the city for their own ends. While the photograph often contains a melancholic sense of loss and decay, the 3D render rather presents overly-sterile surfaces without any trace of wear. Where photographs of the city seek to record and document, 3D renders seek to speculate. In juxtaposing these techniques, I am interested in how the contrasting modes of representation create their own realities from the raw material of the city.
